I’m taking a page right off of Hellohahanarf’s blog. It’s a good weekend to think of others and Becky has posted on her site a list of links to organizations she would like people to click around and be charitable to. I encourage everyone to go to her site and click on AT LEAST one of the links. There are free and fun ways to help. You don’t always have to dig in your wallet to help, but that’s never a bad thing either. Please go there now and then come right back.
OK…you back? Now here are a couple more that are causes I care about. Please click on them and look around. Help if you can.
Happy holiday weekend if you’re into that sort of thing.

There are 5 charities which top my list for very personal reasons.
American Lung
American Cancer
American Heart
American Diabetes
John Muir Health Foundation (John Muir Hospital is the local trauma center and provides top notch care)
i really, really love that you did this post.
hey, if you still need a kidney, i have a spare. seriously. i’m o- blood type, which is good, right?
Crail – All good choices.
Hello – O is great start for me, there are a few other factors, though. It’s all about the antigen match. Hopefully I won’t need another, but even if I don’t someone will.
my friend has polycystic kidneys and i tell her all the time that i’m trying to take good care of mine for when she needs one. scary stuff.
but you know the most fucked up part? that i think i could easily give a kidney to someone i know, yet i would be hard pressed to just give one away to a stranger. not very cool of me.
Hello – I don’t think anyone who needs a kidney would ever even want to accept one from a stranger. It’s a hard thing emotionally to take it from someone you know, I would have to imagine it being harder for a stranger.
But I’m totally on board for giving to someone you know. It’s a wonderful thing. But it’s not because strangers won’t give their organs while their alive that so many people die needing one, it’s because not enough people become organ donors after they die. I can’t see people not wanting to help out 8 or 9 others need their parts after they die. That’s the real issue.
There are so many people who would give, but don’t make that clear enough for their loved ones in time.
amen! when i die there is no reason why my organs should be wasted. everyone in my family knows my feelings and i have the little organ donor indication on my license. plus i have a living will that clearly indicates my wishes.
my aunt tried to give a kindey to a stranger, but they weren’t a good match. i thought that was really an amazing act of generosity, but she didn’t seem to think it was that big of a deal. she’s awesome. i’ll have to hug her extra hard at easter dinner.
Hello – Those are the kinds of things that make you (and your aunt) really awesome. It’s not just your noteworthy knockers.
daaaaaaaaaaaah, thanks othurme.
“noteworthy” isn’t something one hears every day. you cracked me up!
Hey…thanks. xoxoxo
Jen – Of course. You know how much I care about you, right?
